The National Foundation of Patriotism and Rick Rescorla

The National Foundation of patriotism proudly made a request to President Donald J. Trump to consider awarding  Rick Rescorla a well deserved, and long overdue presidential award for saving almost 3000 lives during the worst terror attack in history on American soil on September 11, 2001.

Many of Rick’s friends, Officer Candidate School classmates, fellow soldiers and others have tried for many years and made many attempts to obtain national recognition for Rick from a presidential acknowledgement of his heroic efforts, and his ultimate sacrifice, as he lost his life saving others.

On November 7, 2019 President Trump answered our request and agreed to honor Rick with the President’s Citizen Medal. We invited 200 of Rick’s family, friends, supporters, and comrades to attend this historic event. The ceremony was held in the East Room at the White House. The National Foundation of Patriotism and the Rescorla family had a private meeting with the President as he expressed his sincere condolences and the honor he felt in awarding Rick this high honor. The President included honorable recognition to those in attendance including Vietnam Veterans (most of which were Rick’s comrades and classmates), all in attendance who served in the armed forces, and the New York Fire Department (Fire Riders), all of whom were on duty during the attack and lost many fellow fireman that tragic day.

The National Foundation of Patriotism hosted a dinner after the ceremony “Honoring the Life and Legacy of Rick Rescorla.” NFOP Executive Director Pat Stansbury Emceed the event with final remarks from Founder Nick Snider. Special Guest speakers included Rick’s wife and son, a Midwest school teacher Kim Snider who honors Rick’s heroism in her classroom, the first recipient of the Rick Rescorla Award for Resilience Jane Cage, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gentleman from the UK (Rick’s home town) reported a train named in Ricks honor in England, and Andrew Giuliani, our White House contact shared a heartwarming message about his appreciation for Rick Rescorla and his sacrifice and heroism while the Rudy Giuliani family worked to maintain peace and order during the horrific attack in New York.
