Created by the National Foundation of Patriotism

Created to commemorate our nation’s highest honor for valor, and to teach the definition of a veteran, the National Foundation of Patriotism minted this coin for the purpose of preserving history and inspiring future generations to learn about courage, valor, sacrifice and patriotism.

The History of the Challenge Coin (please make this a drop down tab on each challenge coin image)

The creation of coins being minted to commemorate exemplary actions or accomplishments dates back to the renaissance period. That’s where the history gets a little foggy. However, there are many accounts of the use of such coins throughout history and throughout the world. The ‘challenge’ came much more recently, and became a fun way for people to engage upon meeting and share camaraderie. The acceptable way to engage is in a special handshake, in which the person holding the challenge coin (typically) in the palm of his right hand presenting it either as a gift; which is a true honor, or as a challenge.

In the challenge: If the receiving hand has no coin with them, that person buys a round of drinks.
